Knowing Your Coverage
Regarding Restoration to Property Damage
Before disaster strikes...understand the coverage of your insurance policies. Following are some questions you may want to ask yourself or your insurance agent, before a problem arises.
  • Do I have full replacement cost or depreciated cash value?
  • Do I have sewer back-up coverage?
  • What if ground water comes into my house/basement?
  • Have I experienced a puffback?
  • Renters - Do I have renters insurance?
  • Property Owners/Landlords - Do I have property insurance? And do my tenants have contents insurance?
  • Do I understand what it means by sudden & accidental vs. maintenance issues? Not knowing the differences can create tremendous conflicts and/or disappointments between you and your insurance company in your time of need.
  • Do I have an inventory of my contents? (videos or photos)
  • Do I understand my deductible and how it applies?
  • What about vandalism?
  • What if I cannot live in my home? Do I have coverage to stay elsewhere while repairs are being made?
Take the time to have your insurance agent explain your plan to you and answer any questions that you may have.
